Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: China leads both measures, while Korea is at the bottom for production and consumption. You also include several useful figures for China, the USA, India, Canada and France. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. Russia’s consumption is reported as 1,038, but that is its production; its consumption is 1,038, while Japan’s production is 936.2 and consumption is 856.7. The statement that China’s figures are “13 time more” than Korea’s is also imprecise, and Germany’s unusually higher consumption than production is omitted. More accurate comparisons across the full chart would make the summary more complete and better supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, overview and two body paragraphs, and it generally moves from the highest-ranked countries to the lower-ranked ones. This gives the reader some structure. However, progression is weakened by repeated information about China and the USA in both the overview and the first body paragraph, while the final paragraph groups Brazil and Germany without reporting their figures or explaining the notable difference for Germany. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “In addition” and “Furthermore” are used, but some connections are mechanical or do not clarify the comparison. Organise the details into clearer groups and use linking language to show contrasts and rankings rather than simply adding points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “largest,” and “lowest,” so the main topic is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors reduce precision: “on the top,” “13 time more,” “world elcetricity producer,” and “as compared to their rivals countries.” Repetition of “produce” and “consume” also makes the report less varied. Aim for accurate phrases such as “ranked first,” “approximately thirteen times as much,” and “electricity output.” Check spelling carefully, especially for key terms, because errors in repeated topic vocabulary are particularly noticeable in a chart report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the sentence beginning “follow by USA,” but complex constructions are often faulty and the range remains limited. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “The bar chart illustrate,” missing or incorrect articles in “china which is largest producer,” and incomplete sentence boundaries, as in “while USA also produce…” after the overview. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence starts and around clauses. These problems sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and punctuation before finishing.
