Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a basic overview, correctly noting that China leads both production and consumption and that Korea has the lowest production. The figures for China and the United States are also reported accurately. However, the response covers only a small part of the data: most countries and useful comparisons are omitted, and the claim that Korea has the lowest consumption is inaccurate because Germany’s consumption is higher than its production and Korea is not the lowest consumer. Korea’s consumption figure is also misreported. The response is 8 words below the required minimum. To improve, include the main middle-ranking countries and the notable Germany exception, and check all figures against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving selected figures. This helps the reader identify the main topic and the intended comparisons. However, progression is limited because the same highest/lowest point is repeated in the overview and conclusion, while the body moves from China and the United States to Korea without covering the intervening countries. Linking expressions such as “While,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” are sometimes awkward or do not show a clear logical relationship. For example, “As a result” does not naturally introduce the ranking after the figures. Group countries by high and low values, avoid repeating the overview, and use simpler, more precise links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” “lowest,” and “reached,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “consomuption” and “consumuption” recur, “Chine” is misspelled, and “high ten countries” is not a natural way to describe the top ten. The repeated phrase “received … billions KWh” is also an unsuitable collocation for reporting chart values. Use standard forms such as “consumption” and “China,” and describe figures as “stood at” or “amounted to.” Check spelling carefully, especially for repeated key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses short, simple statements and attempts a few longer structures, such as “While …” and “This is why …”. Meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include the incomplete or awkward opening of “While, Korea is was the lowest…,” the incorrect construction “China was firstly,” and the sentence fragment-like use of “While” before a separate clause. There are also problems with articles, number agreement and punctuation spacing, as in “5,398 billions KWh.” Aim for complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use straightforward comparisons—for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, while consumption was 5,322 billion kWh.” Proofread sentence boundaries and agreement.
