Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart compares the electricity genereation and utilization in top ten ranked countries during the year 2014.
Overall, the production of electricity is slightly greater than its consumption, but slight fluctuation can be seen in some countries like Russia,Germany, and Korea that are not following the trend.
China is at the highest point in terms of both, electicity production and utilization. Where 5,398 billion KWh electricity is produced and 5,322 billion KWh is consumed and some proportion is also saved.Same is the case with United states,Japan,India,France And Brazil where, production is higher than consumption. In Russia 1,057billion KWh electricity is produced and 1,038 billion KWh is used.
On the contrary, In Germany electricity is used more than its production. Here 526.6 billion KWh is produced and 582.5 billion KWh electricity is used.It means Germany needs to increase its production.
Korea is at the lowest point in terms of oth electricicity generation and consumption. from the chart its visible that here ,485.1 billion KWh electricity was generated during the year 2014 .Here saving is almost zero.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main leaders accurately: China is highest for both measures, and you give its figures as well as those for the United States and Russia. You also note Germany’s unusual pattern, where consumption exceeds production. However, the overview is unclear when it says Russia, Germany and Korea are not following the trend: Russia and Korea still produce slightly more than they consume, while Germany is the only country where consumption is higher. The claim that electricity is “saved” is not supported by the chart, and saying Germany needs to increase production adds an interpretation rather than reporting data. Include a clearer overview and compare the broad scale differences, especially the sharp gap between the top two countries and the rest.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to country details, and the paragraph about Germany gives the reader a clear focus. However, progression is uneven: the overview groups Russia, Germany and Korea together without explaining their different patterns, and the final paragraph introduces Korea without comparing it with the other lower-ranked countries. Linking phrases such as “On the contrary” do not accurately signal the relationship, since Germany is an exception rather than a direct contrast to the preceding point. Some transitions and punctuation also make the flow choppy. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, the two leading countries, the middle group, and Germany’s exception—and use linking expressions that reflect those relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest point,” and “generated,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or informal for an academic report. “Saved” suggests stored electricity, which the chart does not show; “utilization” is less natural here than “consumption”; and “lowest point” is vague when describing country rankings. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “genereation,” “electicity,” and “electricicity,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully. Terms such as “output,” “use,” “exceeded,” and “ranked lowest” would help you describe the data more accurately and avoid unsupported implications.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your meaning is usually recoverable, and you attempt some longer structures, such as “Overall, the production of electricity is slightly greater than its consumption, but slight fluctuation can be seen…”. However, sentence control is inconsistent, with fragments and faulty sentence boundaries. “Where 5,398 billion KWh electricity is produced…” cannot stand as a complete sentence, and “from the chart its visible that here…” is missing a subject and an apostrophe in “it’s.” Commas are often misplaced or missing, particularly around country names and after introductory phrases. There is also inconsistent tense use between present forms (“is produced”) and past forms (“was generated”). Practise complete, clearly punctuated sentences and use one consistent tense when reporting the 2014 figures.
