Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

A glance at the bar graph provided reveals the electricity produced and generation data of 10 different countries in 2014.It is evident that all nations generate more electricity than usage accepts Germany. Moreover, all the datas are shown in billion kWh.

On the top China produced 5398 billion kWh and, use 5322 billion kWh which is 10 times more than Korean Rep., However, Korea generated 485.1billion kWh and used 449.5billion kWh elecricty in 2014. Which showed korea is at the bottom of the list. At the second number there is United states whoes production of electircity is approx 5000 billion kWh and 3866 electricity consumed by them in billion kWh. Followed by Russia's generation and consuption data is nearly same with 1050 billion kWh elctricity. India is at number 5th postion with 871 billion kWh production and 698 billion kWh consuption of electricity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the main leaders and give several relevant figures, including China’s production and consumption, the United States’ consumption, and India’s production. You also notice the key exception that Germany consumed more than it produced. However, the response reports only a small selection of the chart and does not develop a clear overview of the main pattern across the ten countries. Some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: China’s figures are not ten times Korea’s, and the United States’ production is given only as “approx 5000” rather than the chart’s 4,099. Russia’s values are described as nearly the same without clearly reporting both. To improve, summarise the overall ranking and production-consumption pattern, then select accurate comparisons across the high, middle and low figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with a general statement, then discusses China, Korea, the United States, Russia and India, before adding Germany as an exception. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the progression is not consistently logical: Korea is discussed before the second-ranked United States, and Germany is introduced only at the end with “On the other hand.” Linking is also sometimes inaccurate or awkward, as in “At the second number” and “Followed by Russia’s…”. The overview is not clearly separated from the detailed figures, and the final paragraph feels abrupt. Group countries by their production levels or by whether consumption is lower or higher, and use clear paragraphing and references to guide comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “produced,” “consumed,” “generation,” “billion kWh,” and “at the bottom of the list.” This shows a basic ability to describe the data. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “production and generation data,” “usage accepts Germany,” and “At the second number.” Spelling errors—including “elecricty,” “electircity,” “consuption,” and “postion”—are noticeable and sometimes make reading less smooth. Aim for precise, repeated chart language rather than switching between uncertain terms: for example, use “electricity production” and “electricity consumption,” and describe rankings as “ranked second” or “recorded the lowest figures.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex constructions are often incomplete or poorly controlled. For example, “Which showed korea is at the bottom of the list” is a sentence fragment, while “Followed by Russia’s generation and consuption data is nearly same” lacks a clear grammatical structure. There are also errors in articles, agreement and punctuation, as in “China produced 5398 … and, use 5322” and the missing space after “2014.” These problems recur and sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to follow. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “China produced 5,398 billion kWh and consumed 5,322 billion kWh,” and check sentence boundaries and commas.
