Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main leaders and provide a clear overview: China and the United States dominate both measures, while Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. Most figures you report, including those for China, the US, Russia, India and Germany, match the chart. However, the overview is not fully accurate when it says Brazil has the least consumption: Korea has the lowest consumption, and Brazil is not the lowest. The final comparison also gives France’s production and Brazil’s production but does not clearly compare their consumption. To strengthen the response, select the most informative contrasts across the full chart and check that each overview statement is supported by the data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of supporting details. The figures are generally grouped into related comparisons, and words such as “whereas” and “respectively” help show contrasts. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the final paragraph moves from Germany to India, France, Brazil and Korea without a clear organising principle. Some links are also awkward or incomplete, such as “Germany has high consumption then production,” which makes the comparison harder to follow. Group countries by their relative output or by whether production exceeds consumption, and use clearer transitions between those groups to create a more consistent progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” “second largest” and “respectively,” so the main information is understandable. However, the range is somewhat repetitive, particularly with repeated uses of “large amount,” “produce” and “less amount.” Several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “Germany has high consumption then production” and “Brazil produce less amount of energy.” Spelling and presentation slips, including “prodution” and “Korea,Rep,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise comparison language, such as “exceeded,” “was lower than,” and “recorded,” and check country names and spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “whereas” and “as compared to,” and the reader can generally understand the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “China and USA both have large amount” has an agreement and article problem, while “India has produce” and “France produce” use incorrect verb forms. Comparatives are also sometimes formed incorrectly, as in “higher … then consumption,” and punctuation spacing is inconsistent around sentence endings. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they limit control. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and proofread articles, comparative structures and sentence punctuation.
