Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart presents the electricity production and utilization in top ranked conuntries in 2014.
China is the largest producer and consumer of electricity with production and consumption of 5,398 and 5,322 billion kWh respectively. Korea being the least have production capacity off 485.1 with consumption 449.5 billion kWh.
China is no.1 ranked among all the top ten conuntries with largest production capacity of 5,398 with United States 4,099, Russia 1,057, Japan 936.2, India 871, Canada 618.9, France 561.2, Brazil 530.7, Germany 526.6 and Korea 485.1 billion kWh down the order.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and report many figures accurately, including the leading positions of China and the United States and the low figures for Korea. The final comparison also correctly notes that Germany consumed more electricity than it produced. However, the response is largely a sequence of country-by-country figures rather than a clear summary of the main patterns. The claim that China, Russia and Korea were “almost utilizing all” their production is not well supported as a key overview, and the unusual German result is not quantified or explored. The consumption figures are also described as being in descending order, although Germany’s 582.5 comes after several lower values. Select and explain the most significant comparisons more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it introduces the chart, gives production figures, then consumption figures, and ends with a comparison. This makes the general subject easy to follow. However, progression is limited because much of the body repeats the same ranking-and-number format, and the two long lists dominate the report. The opening statements about China and Korea also repeat information that appears again in the production and consumption lists. Linking is basic, as in “While” and “Germany’s consumption,” and “While” does not connect the following sentence smoothly. Grouping the major producers and consumers, then highlighting the Germany exception, would create a clearer progression and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranked,” and “descending order,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary expression, such as “largest producer and consumer” and “production capacity.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing the chart: “utilization” is less direct than “consumption,” and “production capacity” suggests maximum potential rather than actual output. “Almost utilizing all the electricity produced” is also an awkward way to describe figures that are close. Spelling errors in “conuntries” and inconsistent capitalization of “china” detract from accuracy. Prefer precise chart language and check spelling and country-name capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and some longer structures, and most of the numerical information remains understandable. However, several grammatical errors are noticeable. In “Korea being the least have production capacity,” the clause lacks a clear finite verb and has faulty agreement; “Korea has the lowest figures” would be clearer. “China is no.1 ranked” is also an awkward construction, while “with China at first” does not form a natural grammatical comparison. The sentence beginning “While, the consumption…” has incorrect punctuation and an incomplete-feeling opening connector. Aim for complete, controlled sentences when presenting lists, and use accurate subject–verb agreement and clause structures. These improvements would make the report easier to read.
