Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart illustares the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.

It is evident that China was the most dominant country for electricity production and consumption, while Korea represented the lowest production and consumption. In addition, Germany was the only country where consumption of electricity more than production.

Looking first at China, Chaina was the most dominant country for both consumption and production of electricity. The figure for electricity production stood at 5398 billion kwh , while the consumption accounted for 5322 billion kwh. The US accountend for 4099 billion kwh and 3866 billion kwh for production and consumption, respectively. Furthermore, the figure for production of eclectricity accounted for 1057 billion kwh in Russia, while the figure for consumption stood at 1038 billion kwh. The figure for Japan and india stood at 936.2 billion kwh and 871 billion kwhfor production, 856.7 billion kwh and 698.8 billion kwh for consumption, respectively.

Turning to remaining countries, the figure in Canada accounted for 618.9 billion kwh and 499.9 billion kwh, while in France it accounted for 561.2 billion kwh and 462.9 billion kwh. In addtiton, Barazil represented 530.7 billion kwh and 455.8 billion kwh. The figure for electricity consumption in Germany was higher than the production. The figure for production stood at 526.6 billion kwh, while consumption represented 582.5 billion kwh. Finally, Korea accounted for 485.1 billion kwh and 449.5 billion kwh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main pattern accurately: China leads both measures, Korea is lowest, and Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. The overview is relevant, and the figures you report for the countries are generally consistent with the chart, including the large gap between China and the other nations. You also cover all ten countries. However, the response is weighted towards listing figures, with limited comparison or grouping beyond the overview; for example, the similar production and consumption levels in Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Brazil and Korea could be summarised rather than reported one by one. To strengthen the response, select the most significant comparisons and explain the overall pattern more fully. (The required length was met; 13 words copied from the prompt were excluded.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that move from the largest producers to the remaining countries. Sequencing phrases such as “Looking first” and “Turning to remaining countries” help guide the reader, and the information is generally easy to follow. However, the progression within the body is somewhat mechanical because many figures are presented in a repeated country-by-country format. Some linking expressions, including “Furthermore” and “In addition,” connect details without showing a meaningful contrast or relationship. Grouping countries with similar patterns and using clearer comparisons would make the cohesion more flexible and the progression more analytical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “stood at,” and “respectively,” and the meaning of the data is generally clear. There is some variety in how figures are introduced, but several phrases are repetitive or imprecise: “most dominant” is unnecessarily emphatic, while “the figure … accounted for” is an awkward collocation used repeatedly. Spelling errors such as “illustares,” “Chaina,” “eclectricity,” “addtiton,” and “Barazil” are noticeable, as are inconsistent forms such as “kwh.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit the accuracy and control expected for a stronger performance. Prefer concise, standard chart language and proofread country names and technical terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “Germany was the only country where consumption … more than production” and a comparison with “while.” Most sentences communicate the intended figures clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In the overview, the comparison needs a verb: “consumption … more than production” should be “consumption was higher than production.” In “The US accountend for 4099 … and 3866 … for production and consumption,” the parallel structure is unclear; a balanced construction would be “The US produced 4,099 billion kWh and consumed 3,866 billion kWh.” There are also punctuation and spacing slips around commas and units. More consistently parallel sentence patterns would improve accuracy.
