Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and report several figures for China, the United States, Russia, Japan, India and Canada, so some relevant information is included. However, the response only partially summarises the chart: it gives no meaningful overview of the main pattern, omits the remaining countries, and does not compare production and consumption across the full set. The claim that categories “remain stable” or show “fluctuations” is not a useful description of this one-year comparison. There is also a significant data error: Japan’s production is written as 9,936.2 rather than 936.2. To make the report more complete, state that China and the US lead by a wide margin, then select accurate comparisons, including Germany as the only country where consumption exceeds production.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general statement, and then country-by-country details. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is being presented. However, the ideas do not develop into a clear, well-organised summary. The overview is vague, and the long final section strings together countries with repeated “the next country” phrasing, making the progression mechanical. Several sentences run together without clear punctuation, such as the United States figures followed immediately by “The next country is Russia.” Use separate paragraphs for the overview and selected comparisons, and group countries by meaningful patterns rather than simply listing them. Clearer links between the comparisons would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “categories,” and “comparison,” which helps communicate the chart’s subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the first city” for China and “this electricity is” before the figures. “Fluctuations” and “remain stable” are also unsuitable for describing differences between countries in a single year. Spelling errors such as “bar chat,” “foolowing,” “thry,” and “electricty” further reduce precision. Aim for concise chart language and accurate country terminology, for example, “China ranked first” and “production stood at.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with repeated constructions such as “the next country is…” and “that electricity is…”. There are attempts to connect ideas, but sentence control is weak: “Overall it is clear that there are noticeable differences…” is followed by the faulty “Its show,” and “The second country is United States that electricity is…” lacks a well-formed clause. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “the first city is China” and “This show.” Punctuation is often missing between complete ideas, particularly in the country list. Practise forming accurate comparison sentences, such as “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, slightly more than it consumed,” and check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
