Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant broad overview: China and the United States lead, while Korea is at the bottom. However, the response reports very few specific comparisons, and the claim that seven countries’ usage “remains through out same” is unclear and does not accurately describe the data. Germany is also an important exception, consuming more electricity than it produces, but this is not mentioned. The response is only 100 words, so it does not meet the required minimum of 150. To develop the report, include key figures and comparisons—for example, China and the US produce and consume far more than the other countries, and production exceeds consumption in most cases.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and brief comments on China, the US, and Korea. This gives the reader some sense of the main points. However, the ideas do not progress into a clear comparison of the countries, and the final sentence repeats the point that Korea is last. Linking phrases such as “whereas” are attempted, but the relationships they introduce are not always clear. The overview is also run together with several claims, making it difficult to distinguish the main features. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and group countries by meaningful patterns, such as the two leading producers and the lower-ranked countries.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “production,” “utilization,” “generated,” and “consumed,” and these help identify the chart’s subject. There is also an attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “electricity” throughout. However, the range is limited, and several choices are inaccurate or unclear: “manisculate difference” does not communicate a recognisable comparison, while “minimal electricity production and usage” is imprecise for Korea’s position relative to the other countries. Spelling and word-form errors, including “through out,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language and familiar collocations such as “a slight difference,” “ranked last,” and “consumption was lower than production.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, particularly in the overview and in the comparisons using “whereas,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences lack necessary articles or verbs, as in “largest portion of electricity generated and consumed by two countries,” and the clause about seven countries’ usage is difficult to follow because its structure is incomplete. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent: “overall” begins with a lowercase letter, and the text uses commas where clearer sentence boundaries are needed. Most sentences follow simple patterns, so the range remains limited. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “China generated and consumed the most electricity,” and use full stops to separate distinct comparisons.
