Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a basic overview by noting China’s leading position, then mention several countries and some figures. However, the overview is unclear and includes an unsupported claim that “Canada decreased” over time; the chart compares countries in one year, not change over time. Several comparisons are inaccurate or too vague: the US figure is not “similar to China,” and Germany’s consumption (582.5) exceeds its production (526.6), so the claim that Germany is the same in both is incorrect. The response also omits the notable pattern that production exceeds consumption in most countries. At 133 words, it does not meet the 150-word minimum. Develop a precise overview and report accurate comparisons to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs that attempt to discuss production and consumption. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “After that,” and “On the other hand” help signal movement between points. However, progression is limited because the figures are listed without a clear comparison or grouping, and some links do not express the relationship accurately. For example, “After that” suggests a sequence, although the countries are ranked rather than presented as stages, while “On the other hand” does not clearly contrast the consumption paragraph with the preceding one. Repetition of “Following that” and unclear references such as “which” also weaken cohesion. Group countries by scale or by whether production exceeds consumption, and use more precise links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “manufacturing,” and “generation,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. “Making and usages electricity” is not a natural way to describe production and consumption, and “limited generation” does not clearly convey that the figures are lower. Phrases such as “fell down” and “decreased the overtime” wrongly suggest change over time, although the chart shows a single year. There are also inconsistent forms, such as “manufacturing” for electricity production. Use precise chart language such as “produced,” “consumed,” “stood at,” and “was higher than,” and avoid implying a trend where none is shown.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few complex structures, including “it can be observed that” and “After that United States in making fall around 4099kwh,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns and several are grammatically faulty. Errors include missing articles and possessives in “top one country China,” incorrect verb forms in “United States in making fall,” and agreement or construction problems in “Consumption electricity in increased the China.” The sentence “as well as Canada decreased the overtime” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between its parts. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly around commas and sentence openings. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison hard to understand. Practise accurate subject–verb patterns and past-tense reporting, and build clear sentences such as “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, while consumption was 5,322 billion kWh.”
