Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main extremes accurately: China has the highest production and consumption, while Korea has the lowest, and you include several relevant figures. However, the summary covers the chart only partially. It gives little comparison of the United States, despite its position as the second-largest producer and consumer, and the overview does not capture the large gap between the top two countries and the rest. Some comparisons are also inaccurate or unclear: the France–Brazil–Germany production figures are not all similar, and the final sentence appears to assign Germany’s consumption figure (582.5) to a comparison with France and Brazil. Develop the key patterns across both measures and check that each figure is matched to the correct country.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape, beginning with an introduction and overview before presenting details, so the reader can identify the topic and some key points. However, progression is limited: the details move from China to Russia, then to three lower-ranked countries, Korea, India, and back to France, Brazil and Germany. This makes the comparisons difficult to follow. Linking phrases such as “By following this” do not clearly show the relationship between the information, and the final comparison is confusing. Group countries by scale or by notable differences, and use clear transitions such as “By contrast” or “Among the remaining countries” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “largest,” and “approximately,” and the reader can generally understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “China contain the largest amount,” “Korea involve the minimum,” and “consume the production and consumption.” Repetition of “production and consumption of electricity” also makes the report less precise. Use standard data-reporting expressions such as “recorded the highest figures,” “generated,” and “used,” and describe values as “billion kWh” consistently. Check number formatting too: “449,5” should use a decimal point, and “kilo watt per hour” is not the unit shown in the chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer sentences and use comparison structures, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “The given bar chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “China contain” and “Korea involve” show the same problem. The sentence beginning “Individuals in Russia consume the production and consumption…” has an unclear grammatical structure, and “the production ratio is more as compare to the consumption” is not formed accurately. There are also missing or misplaced articles and punctuation, including the comma after “seen” and the space before “people.” Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then combine them using controlled clauses.
