Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar graph illustrates, the information about ten countries for the production and consumption for power in 2014.
Overall, it can be observed that China accounted the highest rank in country for electricity production, consumption and the lowest with Korea. In addition main trend is US compared to others.
As is illustrated from the graph, China recorded the highest figures in production and consumption of electricity with 5,398 and 5,322 billion kWh. Moreover, the second leading place is US with 4,099 and 3,866. Russia represented the higher rank with 1057,1038 billion kWh when compared to Japan with 936.2,856.7billion kWh. India had the 871 billion kWh in production and 698.8 billion kWh in consumption.
However, the other five countries represented the lowest rank with other countries. Canada ahd 618.9 billion kWh in production, 499.9 billion kWh in consumption. France, Brazil had slight difference in consumption of electricity with 462.9, 455.8. Germany constituted 526.6,586.5. Korea had the lowest figure in production 485.1 billion kWh and in consumption 449.5 billion kWh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main leaders accurately: China is highest in both measures, followed by the United States, and you include several relevant figures for Russia, Japan, India and the lower-ranked countries. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: Korea is not the lowest in both measures, because Germany’s consumption (582.5) is higher than Korea’s and several others. The statement that the “main trend is US compared to others” does not explain a meaningful overall pattern. Some comparisons are also incomplete, and Germany’s consumption is misreported as 586.5 rather than 582.5. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the large gap between the top two countries and the much lower figures elsewhere, and note that Germany is the exception whose consumption exceeds production.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs presenting figures. This makes the information broadly easy to follow, and sequencing from the leading countries to the lower-ranked group is sensible. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In addition main trend is US compared to others” does not establish what comparison follows, while “However” introduces the final group without a clear contrast. The phrase “the other five countries represented the lowest rank with other countries” is also difficult to interpret. Use transitions to show specific relationships—such as contrast or similarity—and group countries consistently, rather than relying on general linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “figures,” and “billion kWh,” and you attempt more formal reporting verbs such as “accounted” and “constituted.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “accounted the highest rank” and “represented the higher rank” do not express the intended meaning naturally, and “lowest rank” is confusing when describing values. There are also spelling and form errors, including “ahd.” Aim for accurate, straightforward collocations rather than forcing formal-sounding phrases. For example, say that China “recorded the highest figures” and that Korea “had the lowest production and consumption figures,” while checking spelling and number formatting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer comparative sentences, and the reader can generally identify the countries and figures being discussed. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and some sentence structures are faulty. The opening comma in “The bar graph illustrates, the information” is unnecessary, and “China accounted the highest rank” lacks a suitable grammatical construction. In “Russia represented the higher rank with 1057,1038,” the relationship between the figures and the sentence is unclear. Punctuation and spacing around numbers are also inconsistent. Practise building clear comparison patterns, such as “Russia produced X and consumed Y, compared with Japan’s figures of…” and check articles, verb patterns and punctuation when editing.
