Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the chart’s subject and year, and you attempt an overview by noting that China is highest and Korea is lowest. However, the response is far too incomplete to summarise the main features: it gives no accurate figures or meaningful comparisons across the countries, and the final sentence breaks off at “highest rank pro”. The claim that production is highest compared with consumption “in a china region” is unclear, while the chart shows China leads both measures and that Germany is the only listed country where consumption exceeds production. The response contains 60 words, 90 below the required minimum; 12 words copied from the prompt were excluded. Add a complete overview and select key comparisons with supporting data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt at organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview paragraph, and “Overall” and “Additionally” signal relationships between ideas. However, the response ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence (“highest rank pro”), so it has no complete final development or clear progression through the chart’s information. “Whereas” introduces a fragment rather than a complete contrast, and “In contrast” does not establish a clear relationship with the preceding point. The short response also provides too little information for effective paragraphing or linking. Complete each sentence, group comparisons logically—for example, the two leading countries and the remaining countries—and use linking expressions only where their relationship is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “bar chart”, “production”, “consumption”, “highest” and “lowest”, so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “stood on highest billion kWh”, “in a china region” and “middle of chart”. “Rank” is also not a suitable substitute for the amount of electricity produced or consumed. The spelling error “comparsion” further reduces accuracy. Use precise terms such as “generated”, “consumed”, “figure” and “amount”, and describe values as higher or lower rather than saying they “stood on” a quantity. Check spelling and country names.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response shows an attempt to use more than simple statements, including “Overall” and a contrast introduced by “Whereas”. However, the sentence structures are not controlled consistently: “the production of electricity was stood on highest billion kWh” has an incorrect verb construction, and “Whereas other countries and stood on the middle of chart” is incomplete and lacks a clear grammatical structure. The final sentence is also unfinished, preventing the reader from understanding the intended point. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “in year 2014” and the fragment beginning “Whereas”. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, such as “China produced the most electricity,” and proofread to ensure every sentence is finished.
