Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern accurately: China and the United States dominate, and production exceeds consumption in almost every country, with Germany as the exception. Several key figures are also reported correctly, including the two leading countries and Russia. However, coverage of the remaining countries is incomplete and sometimes inaccurate: Japan and India are not clearly distinguished, and the statement that France, Brazil and Korea produced “485 and 618” does not match their individual figures. The claim that the bottom five produced between 485 and 628 is broadly close, but Canada’s figure is misstated. The response is also 21 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail available. Develop the comparisons more fully and check each figure against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an overview is followed by the leading countries, the middle-ranked countries and a brief account of the lower group. This gives the reader a basic progression, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “followed” and “because” help connect points. However, the final paragraph compresses several countries into unclear statements, particularly “france, brazil and korea produced 485 and 618,” so the relationships between the figures are difficult to follow. Some transitions between countries are abrupt, and punctuation and spacing make the sequence less smooth. Use separate, clearly structured sentences for the lower-ranked countries and connect comparisons explicitly, rather than grouping several figures together.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “producers,” “consumers,” “ranked second,” “gap” and “exceeded,” which helps communicate the main comparisons. The range is adequate for describing the data, but several spelling errors are noticeable, such as “higer,” “germanu,” “thurd,” “prodction” and “countires.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “a big gap” is informal, while “required it to import extra electricity from aboard” is an unsupported and awkward way to describe the chart’s figures. Aim for accurate country names and standard spelling, and use precise reporting language such as “the difference was substantial” or “consumption exceeded production.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You communicate the main points using a mixture of simple statements and some more developed structures, for example, “In nearly all countries, production was higher than consumption, with Germany being only the exception.” The basic meaning is generally recoverable, but some sentence construction and punctuation problems reduce accuracy. In “China produced 5,398 billion KWh and consumed 5,322,the highest in the world,” the second figure needs a unit and the clause is not properly connected to the comparison. The final sentence, “Germany was unique because consumption of 582.5 exceeded and production only 526.6,” lacks a clear object after “exceeded” and has an incomplete parallel structure. Use complete clauses, consistent past-tense reporting, and punctuation between figures and explanations.
