Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview by noting that China leads both production and consumption, while Korea is among the lowest. You also include several accurate figures, such as China’s production of 5,398 and consumption of 5,322 billion kWh. However, the overview is incomplete and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. Korea is not the lowest in both measures: Germany has the lowest production, while Korea has the lowest consumption. Germany’s consumption, 582.5, is also omitted, and the final comparison gives Germany’s production figure as its electricity use. Select the main patterns more carefully and report both measures consistently for each country.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening overview followed by groups of countries, with transitions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” (though the last is not used). This gives the reader some sense of how the information is being presented. However, the country groupings do not create a clear progression, and several sentences combine figures in a confusing order. For example, the passage about France and Brazil switches between production and consumption without consistently identifying which figure belongs to which country. Paragraphing is also limited, and links such as “Moreover” do not always clarify the relationship between facts. Organise the report into clear comparison groups and use explicit references to each measure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the subject, including “production,” “consumption,” and “billion kWh,” and you attempt alternatives such as “utilize” and “use.” However, the range is limited and several choices are repetitive or do not fit the intended meaning. Phrases such as “the Indian have 698.8” and “the Korea,Rep utilize production” make the data difficult to interpret; “consumed” or “generated” would be more precise. “Stand on” is also an unnatural way to report a figure. Improve accuracy by using a small set of natural reporting verbs consistently, and check country names and forms such as “the United States” and “Korea.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s topic clearly. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or poorly controlled, which sometimes obscures the comparisons. For example, “Russia and Japan the production of Russia is 1,057” lacks a clear grammatical link, while “the consumption of Japan was 856.7 Moreover Russia was 1,038” joins separate facts without suitable punctuation or structure. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “the Indian have 698.8.” Use complete subject–verb sentences, keep each comparison in a separate clause, and check punctuation when moving between countries. These changes would make the figures easier to follow.
