Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify the chart’s subject and year, and your overview correctly notes that China leads production and consumption by a wide margin, with the United States in second place. However, the response is far too brief: it contains 50 words, below the required 150, and gives no supporting figures or comparisons beyond the top two countries. It does not report the remaining countries’ patterns, such as the much lower figures for Russia and the other nations, or Germany’s consumption exceeding its production. To address the task more fully, add key data and comparisons, and make sure the overview captures the main features across the chart rather than only the leading positions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic, understandable structure: an opening sentence introduces the chart, followed by a separate overview beginning “Overall.” This gives the reader a clear starting point and a relevant main observation. However, the response ends before any detailed reporting or comparison is developed, so there is little progression beyond the overview and no grouping of the countries or figures. The first sentence also presents a long list of country names without punctuation to separate Brazil from Germany, which slightly weakens readability. To improve, organise the body into logical comparisons—for example, the two leading countries and the lower-producing group—and use clear links between those points.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “bar chart,” “production,” “consumed,” “largest amount,” and “significant margin,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is narrow because the response is very short, and there is little precise language for describing quantities or comparing the other countries. There are also spelling and word-form problems: “consumoption” is incorrect, and “korea” should be capitalised as “Korea.” The phrase “rank countries” is awkward in this context; “countries ranked by production” would be more natural. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for reporting figures, such as “stood at,” “was considerably higher than,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling and capitalisation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes a correctly formed complex overview clause: “it is clearly seen that China produced and consumed the largest amount of electricity,” and the second sentence is grammatically understandable. However, the range is limited, with only two short sentences and little evidence of varied sentence structures. In the opening, “rank countries namely…” is not a complete, well-formed construction; a clearer version would be “The countries are ranked as follows: China, the United States…” The list also needs punctuation to make its structure clear. Aim to use a mix of accurate simple and complex sentences when adding the missing comparisons, and check that each sentence has a clear grammatical structure.
