Student answer (Band 6.0)

The chart illustrates the production and consumption of electricity from top ten countries, such as China, United States, Russia, Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil, Germany and Korea Republic.

China is the most produced and consumpedcountry of electricity while, Korea Rep. is the lowest. Overall, all countrys production rate is greater than consumption except Germany.

First, China produce 5,398 billion kWh and consume 5,322 billion kWh of electricity. Then the United States produced about 400billion kWh less than China and consume 3,866 billion kWh. Thereafter, Russia and Japan produce and consumped almost same number of electricity. India produce 871 billion kWh and consumed almost 700 billion kWh.

Canada produce 618.9 billion kWh and left 119 billion kWh after consumption. France and Brazil are both use and produce almost same figure of electricity. Whether, Germany is the only country in the list which produce less than what they consume. The numbers are 526.6 and 582.5 billion kWh respectively. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main pattern accurately: China and the United States lead by a wide margin, Korea has the lowest production, and Germany is the only country where consumption exceeds production. The overview also identifies the general production–consumption relationship, and most figures you include match the chart. This gives the response a clear, relevant account of the data. To make the summary more complete and precise, develop comparisons across the middle-ranking countries rather than mainly listing them. For example, Germany’s consumption is higher than its production, but it is also higher than the consumption figures for France, Brazil and Korea. The statement that Canada “left 119 billion kWh after consumption” is an interpretation of the difference, not a chart feature; report the two values or compare them directly instead.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs that move from the highest-producing countries towards the lower-ranked ones. This makes the information generally easy to follow. However, progression within the body is sometimes mechanical, with “First,” “Then,” “Thereafter,” and “At last” doing much of the linking. Some connections are also unclear: “Whether, Germany…” does not establish a logical contrast, and “France and Brazil are both use and produce…” is difficult to follow. Grouping countries by meaningful comparisons—for example, the two leading producers, then the middle group, then Germany and Korea—would create a clearer progression. Use linking phrases that express the actual relationship between figures, such as “by contrast” or “similarly,” and ensure each paragraph develops one comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “billion kWh,” and “respectively,” so the reader can understand the topic and many comparisons. There is also some attempt to vary wording, such as “produce” and “consume.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “most produced and consumped country” is not a natural way to describe the highest figures, while “same number of electricity” and “left 119 billion kWh” are imprecise. Spelling and word forms such as “consumped,” “countrys,” and “Korea Republic” also reduce accuracy. Build a small set of reliable chart-description phrases and use them consistently, such as “generated,” “used,” “stood at,” and “exceeded.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is limited, with errors appearing across much of the response. For example, “China produce” and “India produce” need past-tense forms (“produced”), while “France and Brazil are both use and produce” combines incompatible verb patterns. The opening phrase “from top ten countries” also needs an article, and “all countrys production rate is” has problems with plural agreement and possessive form. Some sentences join ideas awkwardly, as in “At last, Korea Rep. produce … in opposite they consume…”. Practise consistent past-tense reporting and build comparisons with complete clauses, such as “Germany produced X, whereas it consumed Y.”
