Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main leaders accurately: China ranks first in both production and consumption, followed by the United States, and you give several figures that match the chart. However, the overview mainly lists the countries and explains the colours rather than summarising the key patterns. The statement that the middle countries are at an “average level” is vague, and it overlooks the notable exception that Germany consumes more electricity than it produces. The response also gives little comparison among the remaining countries, despite naming them. To strengthen the report, state the overall gap between the two leading countries and the rest, and highlight the general pattern of production exceeding consumption, while noting Germany’s reversal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to comparisons of the leading countries and then the remaining nations. Sequencing China, the United States and Russia by rank helps the reader follow the data. However, the overview repeats the country list and chart-colour information instead of establishing a clear progression of key findings. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In addition” are used mechanically, and the final sentence combines several countries and ideas in a long, difficult-to-follow sequence. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and group countries by meaningful patterns rather than simply listing them. Clearer referencing and more purposeful transitions would make the organisation more effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” and “rank,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “on the second number,” “on average level,” and “the highest rank in production.” Spelling errors such as “numarics” and “gry,” along with inconsistent forms like “Korea,Rep.,” reduce accuracy and polish. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly repeated references to “the chart” and “electricity.” Aim for standard chart-reporting collocations and precise comparison language, such as “ranked second,” “roughly comparable,” and “consumption was lower than production.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses joined with “which” and “and,” but control is inconsistent. The opening has subject–verb disagreement: “The bar chart illustrate” should be “The bar chart illustrates.” Other examples include “China is the highest consumer,” where a more accurate structure is needed to describe consumption, and “Korea, Rep. on the lowest rank,” which lacks a finite verb. Long sentences joined by commas and conjunctions, especially the final sentence, make relationships between ideas unclear. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitals after commas and missing spaces. Practise accurate sentence patterns for ranking and comparison, and divide long sentences into shorter, complete clauses.
