Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s topic and reports some relevant figures, including China’s production of 5,398 billion kWh and the United States’ 4,099 billion kWh. However, it does not provide a clear overview of the main patterns, and coverage is very limited: most countries and the consumption figures are omitted. There are also factual errors: Russia produced 1,057 billion kWh, not around 936, and India ranked fifth, not fourth. Explanations about population, US states, and villages in 2026 are not shown by the chart and distract from the required summary. The response is 148 words, below the 150-word minimum. To improve, summarise the overall ranking and compare production with consumption using accurate chart data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence from China to the United States, Russia, and India, so the reader can follow which countries are being discussed. However, the response is presented as one long, largely unpunctuated paragraph, with ideas joined repeatedly by “and” and “so.” This makes the progression difficult to follow and obscures comparisons between the two data series. The opening repeats the task rather than establishing a concise overview, while the comments about population and villages interrupt the chart description. Organise the response into an overview and a paragraph of selected comparisons, and use clear sentence boundaries and linking phrases such as “by contrast” or “similarly” to show relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “production,” “consumes,” and “electricity,” and attempts to describe quantities with “around.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “on the 2nd largest producer,” “on the third number,” and “a small number.” Repetition of “a lot of” and “given data” also limits precision. Some word forms and spelling are inaccurate, including “analysing” used in an awkward opening and “kind be okay.” Use standard chart language such as “ranked second,” “generated,” “consumption,” and “approximately,” and choose vocabulary that describes the figures rather than adding unsupported commentary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent, and many clauses run together without full stops. Examples include “china produces around 5,398billion kwh and also consumes a lot” and “its also uses a lot,” where verb forms and agreement are faulty. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction, as in “the second largest population country in world” and “india is on the fourth number of production.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also weak, making sentence boundaries unclear. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses—for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, slightly more than it consumed.”
