Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart illustrates the ten leading countries in terms of electricity production and consumption in 2014.

Overall, two countries showed the highest production and consumption of electricity while, others had less figures in comparison of these two countries. Germany was only country with more consumption than production of electricity.

In this chart, Cina was top of the list with the production of 5,398 billion KWh electricty but their consumptuon was also near to it. It was 5,322 billion KWh while, on the second number was United States with 4,099 billion KWh production but their consumption was little bit less than production around 3,866 billion KWh at that time.

Remaning all countries had closed figures to others, on third number Russia and on forth was Japan, with almost equal digits. Russian production was 1,057 KWh and consumption was 1,038 while, Japan produced 936.2 and consumed 856.7 KWh moreover, was India and Canada with 871 and 618.9 KWh production rate while, 698.8 and 499.9 KWh consumption further moreover, was France and Brazil 561.2 and 530.7 KWh production at last was Gemany and Korea. Germany had 526.6 KWh production and 582.5 KWh consumption while, korea had 485.1 KWh production and 449.5 KWh consumption with least numbers

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a clear overview of the main pattern: China and the United States lead by a large margin, and Germany is the only country where consumption exceeds production. Most figures you report are accurate, including the values for the leading countries and Germany. This addresses the task, but some comparisons are less fully developed: the statement that the remaining countries had “closed figures to others” is vague, and the overview could better describe the sharp drop after the United States and the generally higher production figures. Also, the unit is billion kWh, but several figures are labelled only “KWh,” which makes the reporting less precise. Select and compare the key patterns more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and the country figures are generally presented in chart order. However, progression becomes difficult to follow in the final paragraph, where many countries and values are packed into one long sentence. Connectors such as “while,” “moreover,” and “further moreover” are repeated or used awkwardly, so relationships between comparisons are not always clear. Some references, including “their” for countries and “at last,” are also unclear or imprecise. Use separate sentences or grouped comparisons—for example, Russia and Japan, then India through Brazil, then Germany and Korea—and use a smaller range of accurate linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary such as “production,” “consumption,” “leading countries,” and “overall,” so the reader can understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “less figures,” “on the second number,” “closed figures,” and “least numbers.” Spelling errors such as “Cina,” “electricty,” “consumptuon,” “Remaning,” and “Gemany” are noticeable and reduce precision. Some informal wording, such as “little bit less,” is also less suitable for an academic report. Aim for precise comparison language and check spelling carefully; terms such as “ranked second,” “similar levels,” and “the lowest figures” would communicate the data more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex sentences are often poorly controlled, especially in the final paragraph, where clauses are joined with commas and “while” without clear sentence boundaries. There are also recurring problems with articles and sentence structure, as in “Germany was only country” and “on the second number was United States.” The phrase “two countries showed the highest … while, others had less figures” has faulty punctuation and an awkward contrast structure. Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles and punctuation. Shorter, accurately punctuated comparisons would make the information easier to follow.
