Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures for all ten countries, with the main extremes—China at the top and Korea at the bottom—correctly noted. However, the overview is limited: it does not clearly compare the large gap between China and the United States and the much lower figures for the remaining countries. The claim that Korea had the lowest electricity is also imprecise, since Germany’s consumption was higher than its production and exceeded Korea’s. France’s consumption is given as 462.2 rather than 462.9. The response is 130 words, below the required 150, which limits the opportunity to select and explain key features. Develop a clearer overview and add meaningful comparisons rather than listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs reporting country figures. The sequence broadly follows the chart’s ranking, and linking expressions such as “while,” “whereas,” and “in contrast” help show comparisons. However, the progression is largely a list of figures, with little grouping or synthesis of the data. Some transitions are awkward or incorrectly punctuated, as in “Regarding, Indian electricity…” and “According to the bar chart the highest electricity were China…”. Repeated sentence openings also make the report feel mechanical. Group countries by broad patterns—for example, the two leading producers and the lower-output group—and use clearer transitions to connect those comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” “lowest,” and “almost stable,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or unnatural, such as “electricity production electricity,” “consumption electric value,” and “the highest electricity were China.” “Almost stable” is not the best description of Russia’s figures; “similar” or “only slightly lower” would be more precise. There is also a factual figure error for France, but the main lexical issue is imprecise word choice and collocation. Use “generated” and “used” selectively, and describe values as “output” or “consumption” to avoid repeating “electricity” in every clause.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and comparison clauses, including “while consumption 698.8” and “whereas consumption electricity 3,866,” but many sentences have faulty structure. For example, “the highest electricity production and consumption was China” lacks a natural grammatical construction, and “the highest electricity were China production electricity was…” combines clauses without a clear subject–verb pattern. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “the highest electricity were” and “the France electricity.” Punctuation around introductory phrases is sometimes incorrect. These errors can make the reader work to understand the comparisons, although the intended figures are often recoverable. Practise a reliable pattern such as “China produced X, while its consumption was Y,” then vary it with accurate comparative clauses.
