Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies the chart’s general subject and recognises that China is the leading country, which gives it a relevant starting point. However, it reports very little of the actual data and only minimally fulfils the task of summarising and comparing production with consumption. The claim that China uses or saves the most is broadly supported, but the statement that Korea produces the least overlooks Germany’s lower production figure, and the response incorrectly names the UK as the second country rather than the United States. The overview also says Korea makes the least electricity without distinguishing production from consumption. Focus on the chart itself: compare the two leading countries with the much lower figures for the remaining countries, and note Germany’s unusual consumption figure, which exceeds its production.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has visible sections labelled introduction, overview and body, and it uses basic linking expressions such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore.” These features provide some organisation. However, the ideas do not progress as a clear account of the chart: the body shifts into general comments about electricity, factories and China’s products, rather than developing comparisons between the data. Some links are also unclear, as in “After that the second country we makes more items,” and “At last” does not accurately signal a chart comparison. Keep each paragraph focused on a stage of the summary—an overview followed by grouped comparisons—and use references and connectors to show how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a basic set of relevant terms, including “production,” “consumption,” “electricity,” and “comparison,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes strains understanding. For example, “usage and savage” appears to be an attempt to describe consumption and production, while “make electricity” is repeated instead of using more precise chart language. Phrases such as “top for production” and “make more items” do not clearly describe the figures. Build a small range of accurate reporting expressions, such as “generated,” “consumed,” “ranked second,” and “the figure was substantially lower,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and some basic meaning can be followed. However, sentence structures are often faulty, with frequent problems in agreement, articles, verb forms and punctuation. Examples include “The ten top countries production and consumption are shown in bar chart,” “China is one of the most powerful country,” and “the second country we makes more items.” The sentence “Industry and factory run due to electricity” also shows problems with plural forms and agreement. Several sentences run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with clauses—for example, “China produced more electricity than it consumed”—and check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
