Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart gives information about the ten largest electricity-producing and consuming countries in 2014.
Overall, china and US were the biggest producers. they produced and consumed far more electricity than other countries , while Korea was the lowest. in addition production was higher than consumption in most nations.
In terms of production, China was on top of the figure with almost 5.398 billion KWh. Followed by US which ranked second with the value of 4.099 billion KWh. The bottom tree countries were Brazil,Germany and Korea with around 530.7, 526.6 and 485.1 billion KWh respectively, while the remaining nations Japan, India and Canada produced between 618 and 936 Billion KWh.
Regarding consumption, the trend was broadly similar to production. China and United States remained the highest consumers, with approximately 5.322 and 3.866 billion KWh respectively. In contrast to Korea, which recorded the lowest consumption with around only 449.5 billion KWh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a clear overview: China and the United States lead by a large margin, and production exceeds consumption in most countries. The figures you report for China, the US, Brazil, Germany and Korea are broadly accurate. However, the overview’s claim that Korea was the lowest needs qualification: it had the lowest production, but Germany’s consumption (582.5) was higher than several countries, and Korea was not the lowest consumer only if comparing all entries? In fact, Korea’s 449.5 is the lowest. More importantly, the production comparison is unclear: Japan, India and Canada are not all between 618 and 936, and Russia is omitted from the discussion. Include the notable German exception, where consumption exceeded production, and develop the middle-ranking comparisons more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to production and then consumption. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main functions, and phrases such as “In terms of production” and “Regarding consumption” guide the reader. However, the progression within the production paragraph is not fully clear: “the remaining nations Japan, India and Canada” leaves out Russia and groups the figures in a confusing way. The consumption paragraph is also very brief and does not compare the other countries or connect back to the overview’s exception. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Organise the data into clearer high-, middle- and low-ranking comparisons, and use transitions to show contrasts rather than simply listing categories.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task vocabulary, including “producers,” “consumers,” “ranked second,” “recorded,” and “in contrast.” These choices make the main comparisons understandable, and you attempt some variation rather than repeating “was.” Some word choices and forms are imprecise, however: “on top of the figure” is not a natural way to describe the highest value, while “bottom tree countries” appears to mean “bottom three countries.” “The trend was broadly similar” is also too general given the German exception. Capitalisation and presentation of units are inconsistent (“china,” “KWh,” “Billion”). Use precise chart language such as “highest output,” “lowest-ranked,” and “consumption exceeded production,” and check spelling and standard unit formatting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the meaning remains clear. For example, the overview uses a contrast with “while,” and the consumption paragraph includes a comparative clause. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. “Followed by US which ranked second” is a sentence fragment; connect it to the preceding sentence or write a complete sentence with a subject and verb. The sentence beginning “In contrast to Korea” is also incomplete. In “they produced,” the pronoun begins a new sentence and should be capitalised, and country names such as China and the United States need consistent capitalisation. Improve sentence boundaries and use complete clauses, while retaining the comparative structures you already attempt.
