Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern: China and the United States lead both measures, and Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. The figures for these countries are accurately reported, and you also mention the lower-ranked countries. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: Russia, Japan and India did not all produce around 1,000 billion kWh, and the claim that their usage was “nearly the production” is too vague. The overview also says the other countries’ production was higher, although Germany is an exception and its consumption is higher. To strengthen the response, give a clearer overview and select a few precise comparisons, including the substantial gap between China and the remaining countries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs. The progression from the leading countries to the lower figures is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In addition” help signal relationships. However, some linking is mechanical or unsuitable: “On the one hand” is not matched by a natural “on the other hand,” and “On the second hand” is not an appropriate transition. The overview’s contrast between Germany and the other countries is also difficult to follow because it first identifies Germany as an exception, then generalises that all countries produce more. Group the data more clearly and use transitions that accurately express comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing the chart, including “production,” “consumption,” “usage,” “highest,” and “balanced.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, such as “the most noticeable factor from Germany,” “proportions slight lowern,” and “were experienced around 1000.” Spelling errors, including “genration,” “elecricity,” and “countires,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe figures as “stood at” or “amounted to,” and use “slightly lower” rather than “proportions slight lowern.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a clause beginning “although” in the overview. The main comparisons are usually understandable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or awkward. For example, “Overall, the most noticeable factor from Germany because…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “Russia, Japan, and India were experienced…” uses an incorrect verb pattern. There are also issues with articles, agreement and sentence construction in phrases such as “United states proportions slight lowern than China accounted for…” and “Canada, France, Brazil and Korea number of production…”. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences before adding comparisons, and check that each clause has a complete, correctly formed verb.
