Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report figures for all ten countries, including the key exception that Germany consumes more electricity than it produces. However, the overview is very limited: “China” is first and Korea last describes the ranking but does not summarise the dominant pattern, such as China and the United States being far ahead of the other countries or production generally exceeding consumption. Most of the response is a list of figures, with little selection or comparison of the main features. The figures you give are largely accurate, but the task is addressed only partially because the overview and comparisons are underdeveloped. To strengthen the response, state the main trends clearly and compare the largest and smallest values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a brief overview, and two paragraphs covering the countries. This gives the information some organisation, and the country sequence broadly follows the chart’s ranking. However, there is no clear progression from an overview to grouped comparisons; most details are joined in long strings, especially in the final paragraph. Repeated use of “and” makes relationships between figures difficult to follow, while transitions such as “second” and “on no6” are not used consistently. Separate each country or meaningful group into clearer sentences, and use linking phrases to show contrasts—for example, to highlight Germany as the only country where consumption exceeds production.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to identify the chart’s subject and report the data, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranking,” and “billion kWh.” The repeated use of “production electricity” and “consuption” limits precision, however, and several spelling errors—such as “countrys,” “electic,” and “electrycity”—are noticeable. Some expressions are also unnatural, including “on the first of china” and “the germany has production lass.” These choices can make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Aim for accurate chart language and vary the repeated wording with phrases such as “generated,” “used,” “ranked first,” and “exceeded.” Check spelling and use standard country names and capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Your response mainly uses simple statements and attempts to connect several ideas in longer sentences. However, those longer constructions are often difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear sentence boundaries or punctuation, as in the paragraph beginning “The canada is on no6.” There are frequent problems with articles, agreement, and sentence structure: “This bar graph show” should have a singular verb, while “The china is production electricity” does not form a clear grammatical sentence. Capitalization and punctuation are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes obscure the relationships between the figures. Practise writing one complete sentence for each comparison, using a consistent past-tense reporting pattern and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and full stops.
