Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the chart’s subject and gives a relevant broad observation: China has the highest figures, while Korea has the lowest production. It also includes several production values, such as China’s 5,398 and the United States’ 4,099. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: “most figures climbs and drops over time” suggests a time trend, although the chart compares countries in one year. The report omits consumption almost entirely, leaves several countries and figures unreported, and ends before completing its comparison. The required minimum of 150 words is not met, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, summarise both series, identify the main contrasts, and support the overview with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview and then details. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is weak: the detail paragraph lists production rankings in a long, repetitive sequence, and the final sentence stops without completing the Brazil comparison. Linking phrases such as “overall,” “it can also be seen,” and “in the beginning” are used, but they do not create clear relationships between the information; “in the beginning” is also unsuitable for a chart showing a single year. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and comparisons, and group countries by meaningful similarities rather than listing ranks one by one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “figure,” and “rank,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several words are repeated, especially “production of electricity” and “rank.” Spelling errors such as “prodution,” “electicity,” “higest,” and “productin” are noticeable, while phrases such as “top production” and “the 8th ranks” are not natural in this context. The phrase “climbs and drops over time” also misrepresents the chart and is an imprecise choice. Build a wider set of accurate terms for comparing quantities, such as “generated,” “consumed,” “stood at,” and “exceeded,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and a longer sentence, and the basic meaning of some comparisons can be understood. However, sentence control is inconsistent. The opening, “The bar chart illustrates that information about…,” has an unnecessary “that” and an incomplete construction. The overview also contains agreement problems in “most figures climbs and drops,” while the long sequence beginning “In the beginning China was top production” lacks clear grammatical connections and punctuation. Articles and sentence boundaries are often missing, making the report difficult to follow. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “China produced the most electricity, at 5,398 billion kWh,” and use full stops to separate comparisons. Aim for accurate simple sentences before adding more complex structures.
