Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two leading countries and give several accurate production and consumption figures, including China, the United States, Russia, and Japan. However, the response only partially covers the chart: it stops during Germany’s figures and omits Germany’s consumption and all figures for South Korea. The overview also says the leading countries consume more than they produce, whereas both actually consume slightly less; the claim that they have more resources is not shown by the chart. The response is 115 words, below the 150-word minimum, and 18 words copied from the prompt were excluded from that count. To develop the report, complete the comparisons and give an accurate overview of the main pattern.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an overview is followed by paragraphs giving figures, and the largest producers are discussed first. However, progression is limited because the report becomes a list of country values rather than a complete, clearly grouped comparison. The final sentence breaks off at “germany is 526.6 and,” leaving the information unfinished. Linking expressions such as “moreover” and “furthermore” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between ideas and become repetitive. Grouping the countries into leading producers and the remaining countries, then completing each comparison, would make the sequence easier to follow. Use paragraphing to separate the overview from the detailed comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” and “top rank,” and the reader can generally identify the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “consume the more electricity they produce” and “holding top rank.” “Resourses” is misspelled, and “cosumption” is also misspelled; these errors reduce precision in a short report. The phrase “more resources” introduces an unsupported idea rather than describing the data. Aim for accurate, repeated use of terms such as “generated,” “used,” and “ranked,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “China and united states produce more electricity then the others” has problems with article use and sentence construction, while “China electricity production in 2014 ,is 5,398” has an unnecessary comma and an awkward noun pattern. The sentence about the leading countries consuming more than they produce is also difficult to parse. Most figures are presented in short clauses, so there is little evidence of controlled complex structures. Practise accurate comparisons using patterns such as “China produced X, while its consumption was Y,” and check articles, verb forms, and punctuation.
