Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You report several figures accurately, including China, the United States, Russia, Japan, India, Canada and France, and the opening identifies the chart’s subject and year. However, the response is incomplete: it stops partway through Brazil and omits Brazil’s consumption as well as Germany and South Korea. It also gives no clear overview of the main pattern, such as China and the United States leading by a large margin or production generally exceeding consumption, with Germany as the exception. The response contains 111 words, below the required 150; 18 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To address the task more fully, add an overview and select key comparisons rather than listing only some countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The information follows a recognisable country-by-country order, moving from China through Brazil, and repeated use of “and” helps connect production and consumption figures within entries. This gives the reader some basic structure. However, the response is presented as a sequence of separate statements without paragraphing or a clear overview, so it reads more like an unfinished list than a summary with a logical progression. The repeated sentence pattern also makes the links between countries and the overall comparisons unclear. Group the leading countries together, then summarise the lower figures, and use a short overview to guide the reader. Completing the final entries would also make the organisation feel less abrupt.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “billion kWh,” and country names, so the basic information is generally understandable. However, the range is narrow and repetitive, with “production” and “consumption” repeated in nearly every sentence and little language for comparing values or describing overall patterns. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “prodution,” “cosumptionis,” “Canda,” and “lkWh,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Use a few precise alternatives and comparison phrases, such as “generated,” “used,” “slightly higher than,” and “by contrast,” while checking spelling and spacing carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, and the figures can usually be understood. There is an attempt to combine information with “and,” but the sentence structures remain very repetitive and show limited range. Several grammatical problems are evident: “China, is the highest rank country used electricity” has incorrect punctuation and an unclear clause structure, while “United states production … is” lacks a possessive or article structure that would make the relationship clear. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “United states.” Practise accurate comparative sentences and clauses, for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, slightly more than it consumed.” This would improve both sentence control and variety.
