Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s main pattern: China leads both measures, Korea is lowest, and Germany is the exception to the general pattern of production exceeding consumption. You also include several relevant production figures and compare the USA’s production and consumption. However, coverage is partial: China’s consumption is incorrectly given as 5,398 rather than 5,322, and the figures for Russia, Japan, India and most other countries’ consumption are omitted. The statement that France, Brazil and Germany produce between 500 and 565 is broadly accurate, but the comparison would be more useful with selected consumption figures and clearer contrasts. To strengthen the report, check every stated value and develop the overview with the large gap between China/USA and the remaining countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it generally moves from the leading countries to those with lower figures. This gives the reader some overall direction. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the final paragraph lists ranks and production values, then shifts to Germany’s consumption without a clear comparison of the countries. Linking words such as “While” and “In contrast” are used, but some connections are incomplete or awkward, and punctuation spacing makes boundaries harder to follow. Grouping the countries by output level and consistently comparing production with consumption would make the organisation clearer. Use complete transitions and avoid joining separate statements without a space or full stop.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “manufacturing,” “utilize” and “rank,” so the topic is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “on buttom,” “on first rank” and “in the rate range.” Repetition of “manufacture” and “utilize” also makes the report less precise; “produce” and “consume” are more natural for describing electricity data. Spelling errors, including “consuption,” “manufacuring” and “elecricity,” are noticeable and can slow the reader. Build a small set of accurate chart-description phrases and check spelling, especially for key terms repeated throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overview uses a contrast between the general pattern and Germany. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors occur in many sentences. Examples include “all countries produce more electricity … accept one Germany,” where the clause structure and verb form are faulty, and “China is on first rank is the manufacturing,” which combines sentence patterns incorrectly. Subject–verb agreement is also problematic in “China utilize” and “Germany … produce.” Articles, prepositions and punctuation are often missing or misplaced, as in “in year 2014” and “While USA in on 2 rank.” Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
