Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two leading countries, China and the United States, and note that Korea has the lowest production, which captures some important features. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the large gap between the top two and the remaining countries, or the general pattern that production exceeds consumption in most countries. Some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, Japan’s consumption is 856.7 billion kWh, not 936.2, and Germany’s consumption (582.5) is higher than its production (526.6), unlike the pattern in most other countries. The claim that Japan and India are “marginally lower” also understates the differences. Select a few key comparisons and report their figures precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an opening, an overview, and separate discussion of production and consumption. This gives the reader a general sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly where several countries and figures are listed in one sentence. Linking is limited and occasionally awkward, as in “followed by Russia around…” and “other countries France and Brazil,Germany…”. The overview also runs into the detail without a clear separation of ideas. Use clearer topic sentences, group countries by meaningful similarities, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, contrast the top two with the much lower figures for the remaining countries.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” “followed by,” and “respectively,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural. “Most amount use,” “lowest amount,” and “list popular” do not express the intended comparisons clearly; “medium amount” is also vague for describing the figures. Repetition of “amount” and “other countries” reduces precision, while inconsistent capitalisation and spelling, such as “china” and “united states,” affect presentation. Aim for concise comparison language such as “generated,” “consumed,” “ranked lowest,” and “considerably less,” and use exact country names consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic comparison structures, but grammatical control is weak and errors occur throughout. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “China and United States was considerably higher,” and the opening overview has faulty sentence boundaries and capitalisation. Several clauses are joined with commas or full stops inappropriately, as in “respectively. followed by Russia…” and “Japan and India marginally lower then others…”. Articles and sentence structure are also missing or incomplete in places, making relationships between figures unclear. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas,” and “compared with.” Check agreement, punctuation, and complete sentence structure during revision.
