Student answer (Band 5.0)
The bar chart illustrates the top 10 independent states for consumption and production of electricity in 2014.
Overall China has produce large 4099 billion kWh of electricity and whereas the consumption of electricity was 5322 billion kWh of electricity, as we can see that Korea produce less 485.1 billion kWh of electricity and consume 449.5 kWh billion of electricity. As we can see that Germany has consume large electricity which is 582.5 billion kWh and produce less electricity which is 526.6 billion kWh.
Now i will discuss about the production of electricity of the following countries;

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, including the high production and consumption values for China and the comparatively low figures for Korea. However, the overview is unclear and contains a major factual error: China produced 5,398 billion kWh, not 4,099; the latter is the United States’ production. The response also misses the key overall pattern that China and the United States are far ahead of the other countries, and that production exceeds consumption in most cases, with Germany the exception. Some figures are inaccurate, such as France’s consumption (462.9, not 562.9), and Germany is not covered in the detailed lists. Select the main comparisons accurately and organise them around an overview rather than listing nearly every value.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an opening, a general comment, and separate sections for production and consumption. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is limited because the body mainly lists countries and figures without comparing them or showing how they relate. Phrases such as “Now i will discuss” and “At last i will discuss” announce the next section rather than linking ideas naturally, and “As we can see” is repeated. The overview also combines unrelated points about China, Korea and Germany in a confusing way. Grouping the two leading countries together, then summarising the remaining countries and the Germany exception, would create clearer progression and more effective cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “electricity,” and “billion kWh,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and repetitive: “produce” and “consume” recur throughout, and the response relies on basic phrases such as “large” and “less.” There are also noticeable word-choice and spelling problems, including “independent states” for countries, “comsumption,” and the awkward phrase “consume 449.5 kWh billion.” These reduce precision, especially when reporting comparisons. Use a wider set of accurate chart terms, such as “generated,” “used,” “highest,” “lowest,” and “exceeded,” and keep the unit consistently expressed as “billion kWh.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its basic meaning through mostly simple statements and attempts a few longer sentences. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and the range of sentence structures is limited. For example, “China has produce” has an incorrect verb form, while “China has produce … and whereas the consumption …” combines clauses incorrectly. “United States produce” and “Russia produce” also lack subject–verb agreement, and “Germany has consume” uses the wrong participle. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, as in “i will discuss,” and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense reporting (“produced,” “consumed”) and build comparisons with controlled structures such as “Production was higher than consumption in…”
