Student answer (Band 4.5)
China was the country who was producing more electricity than usage.China was cosuming less electricity than production.China was produsing 5,398 billion kWh electricity and consuming 5,333 billion kWh.Then United States, he was the country who was second in electricity production and consumption. In United States the rate of electricity production and consumption was different as China.Unites States was producing 4,099 billion kWh electricity and 3,866 billion kWh was used by people. Then Russia was producing 1,057 and consuming 1,038 billion kWh electricity. Both the rates were almost same.Japan was poducing 936.2 and consuming 856.7 billion kWh electricity.India came after Japan, he aws produsing 871 and consuming 698.8 billion kWh electricity. There was a big difference between production and consumption. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify several relevant figures and correctly show that China and the United States lead production and consumption, while Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. However, the response mainly lists countries one by one and does not provide a clear overview of the chart’s main patterns. Some details are inaccurate: China’s consumption is 5,322 billion kWh, not 5,333, and Korea’s production and consumption are not the same (485.1 versus 449.5). The comparison that Brazil’s rates were lower than France’s is also unclear because it does not specify production and consumption separately. To strengthen the report, summarise the overall ranking and the general production-consumption pattern, then select accurate comparisons to support that overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response follows the chart’s country order, which gives the reader a basic sequence, and words such as “Then” and “After” help signal movement through the data. However, nearly all the information is presented as one continuous block of repetitive statements, with no distinct overview or grouping of the most important comparisons. Repeated openings such as “In [country]” and “the rate of production and consumption” make the progression mechanical. Some links are also unclear: “different as China” does not explain the comparison, and “In Brazil … lower than France” leaves the specific measure uncertain. Organise the report into an overview and grouped detail paragraphs, using comparisons to connect related countries rather than listing each separately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “rate,” “difference,” and “billion kWh,” so the basic subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “the rate of production and consumption.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the country who was producing” and “used by people”; the chart reports electricity consumption, not specifically use by people. Spelling errors such as “cosuming,” “produsing,” and “poducing” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for concise, accurate reporting verbs and comparison language, for example “generated,” “consumed,” “exceeded,” and “was slightly higher than.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use a basic subject–verb pattern, and the figures are often placed in understandable clauses. However, the range of sentence structures is narrow, and errors recur in agreement, pronouns, tense and punctuation. For example, “China was the country who was producing” uses an unsuitable relative pronoun and an awkward construction, while “India … he aws” has incorrect pronoun reference and a verb-form error. The opening sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and several clauses omit articles or have awkward word order, as in “Unites States was producing … electricity.” Practise accurate comparative sentences and combine related figures with controlled complex structures; check sentence boundaries and agreement during proofreading.
