Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and make a broad comparison by noting that China and the United States lead in both production and consumption. You also mention Germany’s unusual pattern, with consumption higher than production. However, the overview is unclear and includes inaccurate claims: Korea did not “fall” in either measure, since the chart shows one year only, and Brazil and Germany were not both among the lowest in consumption. Several figures are also misrepresented as percentages rather than billion kWh, and Japan and India are not both around 950. To improve, describe the main ranking and the general pattern that production exceeds consumption in most countries, then support this with accurate figures and the Germany exception.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an attempted overview and a further paragraph of comparisons, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several countries and claims are grouped together without a clear organising principle. For example, the overview combines Korea, China, the United States, Brazil and Germany, then the next paragraph returns to the leading countries before moving through other comparisons. Linking words such as “while” and “Moreover” are used, but some connections are unclear or repetitive. A clearer structure would separate the overall pattern from the details, then compare the highest figures and the remaining countries in a logical order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” “similarity” and “accounted for,” and you attempt to describe differences with words such as “markedly” and “dramatically.” However, word choice and spelling are often inaccurate, which sometimes makes the intended comparison unclear. “Fell” and “rose” suggest change over time, although the chart compares countries in one year; “least figure” is also an awkward way to describe the lowest values. Repeated use of “in both cases” and “accounted for” limits precision. Use standard units and more exact terms such as “generated,” “used,” “exceeded” and “lowest,” and check spellings and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including a general overview and sentences linked with “while” and “whereas.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction and punctuation occur frequently. For example, “brazil and germany was” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “in both production and consumption brazil and germany…” is difficult to parse because the clauses are not clearly structured. Missing spaces after commas and inconsistent capitalisation also affect readability. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Production exceeded consumption in most countries, whereas Germany consumed more than it produced.”
