Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that China and the United States lead both production and consumption, and you note Germany as the exception where consumption exceeds production. These are relevant features, and the country-by-country comparisons show an attempt to report the chart. However, the overview is partly unclear: saying Brazil, Germany and Korea produce and consume the least overlooks that Russia, Japan and India are also far below the two leaders, while “at same page” does not explain their relative positions. Some figures are inaccurate, including Canada’s production and consumption (618.9 and 499.9, not 616.9 and 495.9), and Japan’s figures are confused with India’s. The response therefore covers the task only partially, with important comparisons underdeveloped or imprecise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of details. It also uses sequencing and contrast markers such as “Overall,” “Followed by,” and “Meanwhile,” which help signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear. The overview groups countries vaguely as being “at same page,” and the detail paragraph moves from China and the United States to Russia, then Japan and India without clearly distinguishing their figures. Several transitions are repetitive, particularly “Meanwhile,” and some sentences are difficult to follow because information is compressed together. Organise the details into clearer groups—for example, the two leading countries, the middle-ranking countries, and the lower figures—and use linking phrases only where they clarify the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “followed by,” and “more … than,” so the reader can generally recognise the topic and intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for a chart summary. Phrases such as “at same page,” “made large numbers,” and “Talking about korea” are not natural in this context, while “chary” appears to be a misspelling of “chart.” Spelling and spacing problems, including “russiaproduction” and “alsomade,” also make parts harder to read. Aim for precise reporting verbs and comparison language, such as “generated,” “consumed,” “ranked,” and “slightly exceeded,” and check country names and technical terms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast structures such as “Germany is the only country … where consumption is more than production.” The main relationships are often understandable, but frequent errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation make the writing uneven. For example, “Overall,it is cleared that” has faulty construction and spacing, while “Meanwhile, Japan and India made productio. of 856.7 kWH698.8kWH” is incomplete and does not clearly connect the figures to the countries. Commas are often missing after introductory phrases, and sentence boundaries are inconsistent. Practise building complete comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and proofread punctuation and agreement before submitting.
