The bar chart shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.
Overall, China and United States were by far the largest producers and consumers of electricity, higher than consumption in almost all countries. The only exception was Germany, where consumption exceeded production.
China ranked first in both catagories, generating 5,398 billion kwh and consuming 5,322 billion kwh electricity in a day.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main pattern accurately: China and the United States lead both measures, and Germany is the exception where consumption is higher than production. Several figures are also reported correctly. However, the response covers the data only partially: it does not give figures for most countries, and the grouping of Russia, Japan and India is imprecise because their production values range from 871 to 1,057, while consumption ranges from 698.8 to 1,038. The final comparison also says the remaining five countries produce and consume less than 620, overlooking Germany’s consumption of 582.5 only in the broad sense and not highlighting its exception. The response is 114 words, below the 150-word minimum; develop the comparisons with more accurate detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs that move from the leading countries to the others. This helps the reader follow the broad ranking. However, the progression is brief and the final grouping is not fully clear: “the remaining five countries France, Canada, Germany, Brazil, Korea,Rep” lists countries without a clear grammatical frame, and Germany’s unusual consumption figure is not connected to the overview. Some links between ideas are also abrupt, such as moving from the United States directly to the middle-ranked countries. Use clearer grouping and transitions, and organise the comparisons into fuller paragraphs so the relationships between the figures are easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “production,” “consumption,” “ranked first,” “came second,” and “significant gap,” which communicates the main comparisons. The range is nevertheless limited, with repeated use of “producing” and “consuming” and few precise terms for describing differences or trends. Some spelling and word-form errors are noticeable, including “catagories” and “there consumption,” while “are produce and consume” is an inaccurate phrase. These slips do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate comparison expressions, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the clause “where consumption exceeded production.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but control is uneven. For example, “Russia, Japan, India producing…” is a sentence fragment, and “The remaining five countries … are produce and consume” has an incorrect verb construction. The sentence about the United States also lacks a space and a clear punctuation break before “There was a significant gap.” The response relies mainly on simple statements, so it shows limited structural range. Practise complete sentences with accurate subject–verb forms, and use punctuation to separate comparisons cleanly.
