Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: China and the United States lead, South Korea is lowest, and Germany is the exception to the general production-consumption pattern. However, coverage is incomplete and some figures are inaccurate. China’s consumption is 5,322, not 5,332, and Germany’s figures are reversed: it produced 526.6 and consumed 582.5 billion kWh. The final sentence about Korea is unfinished, while Canada, France and Brazil are mentioned without supporting figures or clear comparisons. The response also falls 12 words short of the required minimum. Develop the lower-ranked countries more fully and check each value against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of country details. The sequence from China and the United States to Russia and the remaining countries is generally understandable. However, progression becomes unclear near the end: “Respectively” is separated from the figures it should connect, and the final phrase, “Korea consume and produce electric,” is incomplete. Some linking is also mechanical or imprecise, such as “Furthermore” and “However” where the relationships between details are not fully explained. Grouping the leading countries together and the smaller producers together, then completing each comparison, would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranked,” and “generated,” and the meaning is usually clear. There is some variation in how you describe the data, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “the largest producers and consumer of the electricity” and “the lowest figure” could be expressed more naturally and precisely. “KWh” is also not the standard form for the chart’s unit, which is billion kWh. The unfinished phrase about Korea limits the range shown. Aim for accurate, consistent terms such as “electricity output” and “consumption,” and use comparative phrases that clearly identify which value is higher.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview sentence beginning “Most countries…” and the contrast introduced by “However.” However, errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or incomplete. Examples include “the China and United States,” “the South Korea,” and “Most countries produce more electricity than they consumed,” where articles and tense are not controlled consistently. The sentence “Germany consumed …, exceeding … electricity it produced” has a faulty comparison structure, and the final sentence is incomplete. Check article use with country names, maintain past tense when describing 2014, and ensure each sentence has a complete clause and a clear comparison.
