Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: China has the highest figures, Korea the lowest, and Germany is the only country where consumption exceeds production. The China and US figures you include are accurate. However, the response covers only these two countries in detail and omits the other important comparisons, including the substantial gap between the US and the remaining countries and the general pattern of production exceeding consumption. The overview also says China “has peaked,” which is not a clear description of its position among the countries. The response is 110 words, below the required 150, so the report is incomplete. Add a fuller comparison of the remaining countries and support the overview with selected figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph beginning with “Firstly” that gives figures for China and the United States. This helps the reader follow the limited information presented. However, the report stops abruptly after the US figures, so there is no progression through the other countries or concluding comparison. Linking is also sparse, and “Likewise” does not develop a clear comparison beyond introducing another pair of figures. Build the body around meaningful groups—for example, the two leading countries and the lower-ranked countries—and use linking phrases to show contrasts and exceptions. This would make the organisation more complete and the relationships between data clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “recorded,” and “billion kwh,” and the main topic remains understandable. There is also an attempt to describe relative size with “slightly lesser.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a data report: “manufacturing” is not the same as electricity production, “peaked” suggests a change over time, and “boomed” and “rapidly” imply growth that the chart does not show. Spelling errors such as “noticable” and “rapidily,” along with inconsistent capitalisation of country names and units, reduce precision. Prefer neutral comparison language such as “highest,” “lowest,” “exceeded,” and “was marginally below,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and more developed structures, including the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the comparison introduced by “while.” The key figures are generally expressed in a way that can be understood. However, errors in agreement and sentence construction recur: “United States and china has” should use a plural verb, and “China as being on the top of the list with number of production to 5398” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. The comma after “while” in the overview is also unnecessary, and the final sentence lacks closing punctuation. Use clear subject–verb patterns, such as “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, while its consumption was 5,322 billion kWh,” and proofread agreement and punctuation.
