Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, including China’s production and consumption and the United States’ values. However, the response only partially reports the main features: the overview is unclear and contains a major contradiction, calling Korea the lowest while also saying the United States is second after China without clearly distinguishing production from consumption. The claim that Russia and Japan “remains same” is imprecise, and the India–Canada comparison is not accurately described: their consumption differs by about 199 billion kWh, but this is not explained clearly. France’s consumption is also given as 463.9 rather than 462.9. Germany’s unusually high consumption is omitted. The response is two words below the required minimum. Select the key comparisons accurately and give a clear overview of the overall pattern.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and two paragraphs of details. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking expressions such as “Although,” “meanwhile,” and “The difference” show an effort to connect information. However, progression is limited because the details move between countries without a consistent grouping or comparison, and the overview does not clearly guide the report. Some links are inaccurate or awkward—for example, “Although, china is on the rank 1” does not form a complete logical connection, while “meanwhile, russian and japan remains same” leaves the comparison unclear. Organise the body by ranking or by notable comparisons, and use linking words only where the relationship between the figures is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the basic subject, including “production,” “consumption,” “figures,” and “rank.” There are also attempts at variation, such as “creation of electricity” and “proportion.” However, some choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing a chart: “creation” is less suitable than “generation,” and “the higher proportion” does not accurately describe the largest totals. Spelling errors such as “whearas,” “ninty,” and “cunsumption” are noticeable, as are inconsistent capitalisation of country names. “The both countries” is also an awkward phrase. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully; this would make the report clearer and more controlled without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison beginning “Although” and a sentence using “meanwhile.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “The bar chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “electricity is produced and consume” uses an incorrect verb form. “Although, china is on the rank 1” is an incomplete or incorrectly connected sentence, and “The both countries” has faulty article use. There are also agreement errors in “russian and japan remains same.” Practise building accurate comparison sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and use full stops to separate complete ideas. More reliable control of basic sentence patterns is the priority.
