Student answer (Band 6.0)
The illustrates the production and consumption of power in ten strong nations in 2014. Production and consumption was measured in billion kWh.
Overall China and United States showed the highest rate in both production and consumption. However, Germery is the only country that its consumption is higher than production.
China has a production electricity of 5,398 billion kWh and 5,322 billion kWh in consumption, followed by United State which has 4,099 billion kWh in production and 3,866 in consumption. Despites the slight difference in number, both countries generated the most highest in both production and consumption of electricity.
Amongst other countries Russia was ranked third, with production 1,057 billion kWh and 1,038 billion kWh in consumption.
Other nations such as canada, France, Brazil, Germany and Korea had low consumption of less than 698 billion kWh. Germany is the only country that it consumption (582.5 billion kWh) exceeded it production (526.6 billion kWh).

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: China and the United States lead both measures, and Germany is the only country where consumption exceeds production. The figures you give for China, the United States, Russia and Germany match the chart. This provides a relevant overview and some useful supporting detail. However, coverage is uneven: Japan, India, Canada, France, Brazil and Korea are grouped together without reporting the notable differences among them, and the statement that these countries had consumption below 698 billion kWh is broad rather than comparative. To develop the response further, select a few figures from this middle and lower group and compare them, while keeping the overview focused on the largest contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs giving leading figures and lower-ranked countries. Linking expressions such as “followed by,” “Amongst other countries,” and “However” help show relationships between points. The progression is generally understandable, but the final paragraph combines several countries in a broad list and then repeats the Germany comparison already made in the overview. Some connections are also imprecise, such as “Other nations such as…” followed by a general consumption claim without distinguishing the countries. Grouping the middle-ranked countries and the lower-ranked ones separately, and using clearer references to the figures being compared, would make the organisation more flexible and cohesive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranked third,” and “exceeded,” and the meaning is generally clear. However, several word choices and forms are inaccurate or unnatural: “ten strong nations” is not an appropriate description of the countries, “the highest rate” is less precise than “the highest figures,” and “generated the most highest” is both awkward and repetitive. There are also spelling errors in “Germery” and “canada,” and “Despites” is incorrectly formed. These noticeable slips limit precision, even though the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. Use standard chart-reporting collocations and check spelling and comparative forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “Germany is the only country that its consumption is higher than production.” Most sentences communicate the intended information, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening is missing its subject (“The illustrates…”), and “Production and consumption was measured” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “China has a production electricity of…,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly; later, “it consumption” and “it production” also show errors in possessive forms. The sentence beginning “Germany is the only country that…” needs a clearer relative clause structure. Improving these patterns, while retaining varied sentence forms, would make the report more accurate and controlled.
