Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report the leading figures for China and the United States accurately, then begin a comparison with Russia. However, the response is only 70 words, so it falls well short of the required 150 words; 12 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. More importantly, it does not provide a complete summary: there is no clear overview of the main pattern, and most countries and their figures are omitted. The Russia comparison is also unfinished, and “one third” is only an approximate comparison. To improve, add an overview and select key comparisons across the remaining countries, including Germany’s unusual higher consumption than production.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, gives China’s figures, moves to the United States, and then starts discussing Russia. Phrases such as “At the second position” and “After United States” signal this order. However, the response ends mid-thought, so there is no completed progression or concluding overview, and the information is not grouped into clear paragraphs beyond the opening. The final comparison repeats the production/consumption pattern without completing the point. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing the data, using linking phrases to show contrasts and rankings rather than relying mainly on sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consume,” “billion kWh,” and “at the second position,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “bar charst,” “comsume,” “rusia,” and “electricty.” Some phrasing is also unnatural: “had produce” and “one third of the electricity as compare to” do not express the comparison accurately or fluently. Use standard forms such as “produced” and “consumed,” and vary comparison language with phrases like “roughly one-third as much as” or “slightly higher than.” Proofreading spelling would also improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with an attempt to combine information using “which was” and “respectively.” However, verb forms are frequently inaccurate: “China had produce,” “United States had produce,” and “the rusia produce” need appropriate past-tense forms. Articles and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “After United States,” while the final sentence is incomplete and lacks a finished comparison. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting, for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh and consumed 5,322 billion kWh,” and complete each comparison as a full sentence. A wider mix of correctly controlled sentence structures would strengthen the report.
