Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart as comparing electricity production and consumption and include China’s figures accurately (5,398 and 5,322). You also recognise that China and the United States are the largest, and Korea has the lowest production. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives very few comparisons, omits most countries and figures, and does not provide a clear overview of the main pattern. The claim that China has the highest consumption is accurate, but saying Korea has the lowest usage is not: Germany’s consumption is higher than its production, and Korea is not the lowest consumer. The response is also 24 words below the required minimum. To improve, write a concise overview and compare the leading countries with the lower-ranked group, using accurate data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to move from describing the chart to mentioning individual countries, and the references to China, the United States, Russia and Korea give the reader some points of focus. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear report: the response is one continuous paragraph, repeats the general idea that the chart shows production and consumption, and ends abruptly with “so it show the 2014 electricity consumtion.” Connections between statements are weak, so the reader has to infer how the comparisons relate. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of key comparisons. Use clear links such as “by contrast” or “while” to show relationships between figures rather than repeating the chart’s purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranking,” and “most,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or forms make the description difficult to follow, such as “the need they are making” and “the almost the same amount electricity requirments.” Spelling errors, including “elecricity,” “consumtion,” and “ttthe,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise, standard expressions used in data reports: for example, say that a country “generated” a stated amount or that its consumption “was slightly lower.” Check spelling and avoid repeating “the electricity” when a more concise phrase is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little evidence of controlled complex sentence structures. Frequent errors in sentence formation and agreement sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “the china country are making producing” has an incorrect subject–verb relationship and an unclear verb construction, while “the united state is the second most usage” does not form a complete, accurate comparison. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistently controlled, and several statements run together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, such as “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, slightly more than it consumed.” Then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and appropriate punctuation.
