Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and accurately report the leading positions and figures for China, the United States and Russia. However, the response covers only seven of the ten countries: Germany, Brazil and South Korea are omitted, and the lower-ranked countries are not compared in detail. The overview is also repetitive rather than highlighting the main pattern—for example, that China and the United States produce and consume far more electricity than the other countries, and that production generally exceeds consumption, with Germany as an exception. Develop a concise overview and select key comparisons across the full chart to make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from China and the United States to Russia and then to countries ranked fourth through seventh. Paragraphing also separates the opening from the data discussion. However, progression is limited: the overview repeats the introduction, and the final sentence lists several countries without reporting their figures or explaining how they compare. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” are used mechanically to introduce each item. Grouping countries by their output levels or by notable production-consumption differences would create a clearer progression and make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “rank,” and “billion kWh,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “standing on third place” and “consumption ratio.” “Overall, this report shows the comparison” also adds little information and repeats the task wording. Use more natural reporting language, for example, “ranked third,” “electricity consumption,” “generated,” and “the figures were broadly similar.” More varied and accurate vocabulary for describing differences would help you compare the countries rather than mainly list them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its main points, but sentence structures are mostly simple and several attempted constructions are faulty. For example, “China produced electricity was about 5,398” incorrectly combines a subject and a clause; write “China produced about 5,398 billion kWh.” Similarly, “It produced the electricity was about 4,099” needs a single grammatical structure. There are also errors in verb forms and articles, as in “China was presenting on the first rank” and “the consumption ratio was about 1,038.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and use a mix of simple and comparative sentences, such as “China produced slightly more electricity than it consumed.”
