Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall pattern: China leads both production and consumption, while Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. You also make relevant comparisons across the other countries and include several accurate figures, such as China’s 5,398 and 5,322 and Germany’s 526.6 and 582.5. However, the report is brief and some features are only listed rather than developed; for example, the substantial gap between China and the United States and the much lower figures for the remaining countries could be highlighted. The unit is given as “kwh” rather than billion kWh, and the response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum. Add a fuller overview and a few well-chosen comparisons to cover the chart more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview, and two paragraphs of supporting details. The grouping of Russia, Japan, India and Canada, followed by France, Brazil, Korea and Germany, gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is often mechanical: “However” and “Similarly” recur, sometimes where no contrast or similarity is being clearly established. The long sentence beginning “However in Russia…” also compresses several comparisons without explaining their relationship. Improve cohesion by grouping countries according to meaningful patterns, such as the leading producers and the countries with lower output, and use linking phrases only when their logical function is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest,” and “producer,” so the topic remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “produce higher and counsume less.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “counsumption,” “elecrticity,” “electricirty,” and “intresting,” which reduce accuracy and polish. Some expressions are not natural for describing data, such as “the interesting part was Germany whereas they produce less.” Use precise reporting language and vary the comparisons—for example, “Germany was the only country where consumption exceeded production” or “output was considerably higher in China and the United States.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences, using clauses introduced by “whereas” and “which,” but these structures are often faulty. For example, “China which was produce” has an incorrect verb form, and “the highest production and consumption of electricity was China” uses an awkward grammatical construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “the France production” and “3,866kwh.However.” Capitalisation is inconsistent, including “The” after a comma and “BY” at the start of a paragraph. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate simple comparison structures first, then combine them into longer sentences while checking verb forms, agreement and punctuation.
