Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: production exceeds consumption in nine countries, while Germany is the exception. You also report many figures, including the leading values for China and the United States. However, the overview is not fully accurate in describing the data as an “upward trend,” since the chart compares countries rather than showing change over time. Some figures are misreported: France’s production is 561.2, not 501.2 billion kWh, and Germany’s is 526.6, not 526.7. The comparison of the two largest producers and consumers is not developed, and the response mainly lists values. Select the key contrasts accurately and explain the overall scale differences more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for production and consumption. This helps the reader locate the two sets of figures. However, progression within the paragraphs is mostly a sequence of country-by-country lists, and the linking words “Firstly” and “secondly” do little to show meaningful comparisons. Some connections are awkward or unclear, such as “whereas Germany had less production than consumption” followed immediately by another figure, and “in Korea, rep had…” at the end. Group countries by scale or by whether production exceeds consumption, and use clear comparison links such as “by contrast” or “while” to make relationships between figures easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “bar chart,” and “respectively,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Upward trend” is unsuitable because the chart presents a single year, not a change over time; “higher” or “greater” would describe the comparison. Repeated use of “had” and “billions kwh” also makes the report less precise; use “generated/consumed” and “billion kWh.” Spelling and presentation errors such as “accpet,” “unitd,” and “consumtion” are noticeable. Check country names and standard unit formatting, and vary the verbs used to report the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses with “whereas” and “where,” but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the report awkward. For example, “Overall it is evident that production was higher than consumption in all 9 countries accpet one country” needs a clearer construction: “in all countries except Germany.” The sentence beginning “Similarly, Japan, india, canada, had…” has faulty punctuation and an unclear list structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “Germany is the only country had higher consumption.” Use complete, controlled sentences, check singular/plural forms and punctuation, and avoid joining several figures into one sentence without a clear grammatical pattern.
