Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main leaders accurately: China is highest in both measures, the United States is second, and Korea is ranked last. You also include several relevant figures. However, the overview is unclear and some comparisons are inaccurate or incomplete. For example, Korea does not have the lowest consumption: Germany’s consumption is higher than its production and exceeds Korea’s. The statement that Germany, France and Brazil have the “lowest” use is too broad, and “remain unchange” wrongly suggests Korea’s two figures are equal. The Russia–Japan comparison also mixes the figures and does not clearly report the pattern. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview of the large gap between the top two countries and the much lower figures elsewhere, then compare the remaining countries accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details. The grouping of China and the United States before discussing other countries gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the discussion moves from Russia and Japan to India, Canada and then a broad group of three countries without a clear comparison principle. Linking phrases such as “To commence,” “On the other hand” and “Finally” are used, but some do not express the relationship between the ideas that follow. References such as “it” and “the same way” are also unclear. Organise the figures into clear groups and use transitions that accurately signal contrast, similarity or sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “share,” “rank” and “rose,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make comparisons difficult to understand. For instance, “the biggest share in China” and “come seconds in the ranks” are not natural ways to describe the chart, while “using more electricity in production” confuses production with use. “Remain unchange” is also an inaccurate expression, and spelling errors such as “clar,” “concumption” and “perpose” reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language such as “recorded,” “was followed by,” “higher than” and “the lowest figure,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can usually identify the countries and figures being discussed. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. Examples include “the biggest share in China for production and consumption,” which lacks a complete clause, and “the United States come seconds,” where the verb does not agree with the subject and the sentence structure is faulty. In “in India production rise slightly 871 to 698.8 consumption,” the comparison lacks a clear grammatical frame. Articles, plurals, verb forms and punctuation also need attention. Practise building accurate comparison patterns, for example, “China produced 5,398 billion kWh, compared with consumption of 5,322 billion kWh,” before attempting longer sentences.
