Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a broad overview: China leads both measures, while Korea is among the lowest, and Germany is an exception where consumption exceeds production. However, the response reports very few figures and does not compare the countries in enough detail; for example, the United States’ high values and the substantial gap between the top two countries and the rest are not discussed. The final sentence also misidentifies Korea’s production figure as 485.1, which is correct, but its wording makes the two figures difficult to interpret. The response is 147 words, three short of the 150-word minimum. Develop the overview and support it with accurate, clearly labelled comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate paragraphs and uses basic signposting such as “Overall,” “Lastly,” and “While,” so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the description. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview lists several countries as sharing a pattern without explaining what that pattern is, and the final paragraph repeats the categories rather than developing a systematic comparison. Some connections are also unclear, particularly “China have a slightly differences of the consumption” and the sentence about Korea’s figures. Group the data into a clear overview followed by comparisons of the leading countries and the lower-ranked group, and use linking phrases to show precisely how the figures relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “rank,” and “lowest,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear. “On the top of the election” does not express that China ranked first, while “share the same cycle” is not an appropriate way to describe similar production and consumption patterns. There are also spelling errors in “cattegories” and “consumtion,” and “Republic of Korean” is an inaccurate country name. Use precise terms such as “ranked first,” “figures,” and “exceeded,” and check spelling and country names carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including an overview and a contrast introduced by “Except for Germany,” but control is inconsistent and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “China have” instead of “China had/has,” “a slightly differences,” and the incomplete construction “There were United States.” The sentence beginning “While on the bottom rank” is also a fragment, and the final sentence does not clearly distinguish Korea’s production from its consumption. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, with limited accurate complex structure. Practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, consistent past-tense reporting, and accurate articles and agreement; then check that each comparison has an explicit subject and both values are labelled.
