Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and give a relevant overview: China and the United States lead, and Germany is the exception to the general pattern of production exceeding consumption. You also include figures for the two leading countries. However, the report is only partial: it stops after Russia, gives no information about the remaining countries, and does not compare the middle and lower-ranked figures. The Russian production figure is also inaccurate: the chart shows 1,057 billion kWh, not 1,097. The response contains 91 words, below the required 150, so several key features are left unreported. To develop the task more fully, cover the full range of countries and include accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic sequence: an introduction, an overall statement, and then details about China, the United States and Russia. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “Followed by” help signal this order. However, the response ends abruptly after Russia, so the information does not progress through the chart or form a complete report. Several ideas are joined with commas or placed together without clear sentence boundaries, as in “While the other remaining countries were least user and producer, However…”. This makes the relationships between points harder to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and selected details, and connect comparisons with clear, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “ranked first,” and “largest,” so the topic is generally clear. The range is limited, however, and some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “least user and producer” and “far ahead from Russia.” Repetition of “producing” and “consuming” also limits variety. There are spelling and form issues in “United State” and “germany,” and the unit is inconsistently presented as “billions (kwh)” and “kwh.” Aim for precise, conventional reporting language and consistent units. For example, describe countries as having lower output or consumption, and say that the leading countries produced substantially more electricity than Russia.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer comparison, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors are frequent enough to affect clarity. The opening says “The bar graph rank,” where the singular subject requires a matching verb form. In “China and United State were,” the country name also needs a plural form, while “While” is incorrectly capitalised mid-sentence. The final sentence joins several clauses with commas, creating a run-on structure, and “Followed by The United State…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Use full stops to separate the country comparisons, check subject–verb agreement and articles, and practise combining clauses with accurate conjunctions.
