Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The following bar chart illustrates the information about consumption and production of electricity in top ten countries, measured in bollion kilo-watt hours, in 2014.
Overall, all the countires produced the electricity than usage except Germany. China had the highest postion in both sectors. Republic of Korea setted the least rank in this list.
To commence with China which made the electricity around 5398 billion kwh and their usage was 5322, less than production. Moreover, United State of America produced the electricity 4099 billion kwh, their consumption was also less than production at 3866 billion kwh. Russia set the third position which obtained electricity 1057 and consumed 1038. Furthermore, Japan produced the 936.2 and utilized the electricity 856.7.
Carry on with India, the nation which gathered the electricity arounf 871 and their consumption was a little bit less than 700. In addition with Canada and France, where their consumption was 499.9 and 462.9, and their production was 618.9 and 561.2 respectively. Brazil produced and consumed he electricity in higher amount than korea around 530.7 and 455.8, where as korea at 485.1 and 449.5 simultaniously. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main pattern accurately: China leads both production and consumption, and Germany is the exception where consumption exceeds production. The response also reports many relevant figures, including those for China, the United States, Russia and Japan, and groups the remaining countries for comparison. This gives the reader a sound account of the chart’s key information. Some details are less fully developed, however: the overview says Korea has the lowest rank without clarifying that it is the lowest producer, while Germany’s consumption is actually higher than that of every country except China and the United States. A more selective overview highlighting the large gap between the top two countries and the much lower figures for the rest would make the main features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the countries, and the figures are generally presented in a logical order. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore” and “In addition” help signal progression. However, some transitions feel mechanical or do not fit the sentence structure: “Carry on with India” is an awkward way to introduce the next group, and “In addition with Canada and France” makes the relationship between the figures harder to follow. The final paragraph also combines several countries in a long sequence, so comparisons can become crowded. Use clearer grouping—such as top producers, middle-ranking countries and Germany—and make each comparison explicit to strengthen progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “highest position” and “respectively,” so the topic is usually clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording with “made,” “gathered” and “utilized.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing electricity data: countries do not usually “gather” or “set” a position, and “Carry on with” is not an appropriate formal transition. Spelling errors such as “bollion,” “countires,” “arounf” and “simultaniously” are noticeable, while “postion” and “consumtion” also reduce precision. Prefer standard chart collocations such as “generated electricity,” “ranked third” and “consumed,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the vocabulary more precise and consistently appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons and clauses introduced by “where,” and the reader can generally understand the figures. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “all the countries produced the electricity than usage” lacks a clear comparative structure; “China which made…” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence; and “their usage was” does not agree clearly with the singular country subject. The sentence beginning “In addition with Canada and France, where…” is also incomplete. Articles and verb forms are sometimes awkward, as in “produced the electricity” and “setted.” Build complete sentences around each comparison, use consistent singular or plural subjects, and check verb forms and punctuation.
