Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main extremes: China leads both production and consumption, while Korea is lowest, and you include several relevant figures, such as Russia’s 1,057 and 1,038 billion kWh and Germany’s consumption of 582.5. However, the report covers the data only partially. The opening overview is useful but does not capture the large gap between China and the United States and the remaining countries, or the general pattern that production exceeds consumption in most cases. Some comparisons are vague: saying Japan and India had “similar” production and consumption does not show that India’s gap was notably larger. Include the key figures for the leading countries and make the main comparisons more explicit to develop the summary fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing groups of countries. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information, and phrases such as “reporting the data in detail” and “Glancing at the remaining data” signal a shift in focus. However, these transitions are somewhat mechanical, and the progression within the detail paragraphs is not always clear. The first detail paragraph jumps from China and the USA to Russia, then groups Japan and India without figures; the next moves through several countries with limited comparison. Organise the details into clearer groups, such as the two leading countries and the lower-output countries, and use linking language to show how their figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “billion kWh,” and “similar,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make the report less precise. Examples include “on last number,” “produce most of electricity,” “had product,” and “genrate”; “used” and “consumed” are also not used consistently to describe electricity consumption. Choose standard chart-reporting expressions and check spelling carefully. More precise comparison language, such as “slightly higher,” “substantially greater,” or “ranked last,” would help you describe differences rather than relying on broad statements such as “almost similar.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, grammatical control is uneven, with frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “China were on top” should use singular agreement, while “China and USA produce” needs a past-tense form to match 2014. The sentence beginning “In japan and India There production…” has an unclear structure and incorrect pronoun use, and “Germany had … and use…” shifts tense within the sentence. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons with clear subject–verb patterns, such as “Production in Japan was slightly higher than consumption.”
