Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the chart’s subject and year, and your overview correctly highlights China and the United States as the leading producers and consumers. You also report many relevant figures for the remaining countries, including the notable German exception, where consumption (582.5) exceeds production (526.6). However, the overview’s claim that the other countries are “just under half” is unclear and overgeneralised: Russia and Japan are far below half of either leading country, while the remaining figures vary considerably. Some comparisons are also imprecise, such as saying Russia and Japan “combined are under half” without making clear what they are being compared with. A more precise overview and clearer grouping of the middle and lower-ranked countries would make the key features more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs that move from the highest figures towards the lower-ranked countries. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the data. However, the final two paragraphs contain very long sentences joined by commas and connectors such as “on the other hand” and “whereas,” so relationships between comparisons are sometimes difficult to follow. The phrase “just under them” also has an unclear reference, and the overview’s “rest of the countries” does not precisely signal which group is being discussed. Use shorter sentences, group countries more deliberately, and make references explicit to improve cohesion without relying on repeated linking words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “production,” “consumption,” “manufacturing,” and “rank,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a chart: “similar use comes by,” “equilvant,” and “average figures” do not express the intended comparisons clearly. “Yearly produce” and “utilizing” are also awkward in this context, while spelling errors such as “coountries,” “consuption,” and “republiw” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional collocations such as “generated,” “consumed,” and “recorded,” and check spelling carefully. This would make your adequate range more reliable and help you describe differences with greater precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “whereas,” and “with,” and the main comparisons are usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in long sentences that combine several countries and figures. For example, “china comes in first rank as it produce” has errors in article use and subject–verb agreement, while “india and canada having” is not a complete clause. There are also tense and agreement problems in “brazil and germany comes.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are often missing, making these structures harder to process. Build accuracy by using complete clauses, checking singular and plural subjects, and separating each main comparison into shorter sentences.
